I SURRENDER
"{I'd died}...
I was {half-past} crucified...
I was on the other side of no tomorrow.
You walked in...
And my life began again..."
paraphrased with gratitude & respect from Fagen and Becker
I surrender.
On the evening of December 15, 1985, without a trace of hope nor any sense of possibility, I gave up the ghost of what remained of my existence under the influence of drugs and alcohol to the vast indifference of the Universe for that moment (THAT DAY). To my utter amazement and continuing sense of wonder, I have not used drugs or alcohol in any moment (ANY DAY) since then.
Here are (3) key takeaways that I sincerely hope resonate and/or at least reach you;
1] If I can have this experience TODAY, it surely is available to YOU…TODAY !
2] Nothing that exists in my life TODAY would be present if not for this experience.
3] Replacing unhealthy behaviors with healthy behaviors can lead to longevity, and, as a great American once said; "...longevity has its place".
"...The lights begin to twinkle from the rocks;
The long day wanes; the slow moon climbs; the deep
Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends; 'tis not too late to seek a newer world."
